SX 68 NE CHAGFORD

Cottage. Probably late C17-early C18. Plastered granite stone rubble; woodshed
of exposed rubble including some large blocks and some cob; granite stack with C20
brick top; thatch roof to main house, corrugated asbestos roof to service extension
and corrugated iron roof to woodshed.
Plan: small 2-room plan cottage facing south and built down a hillslope. Right
(east) end stack. Small early or mid C20 2-storey service extension on left end and
C19 woodshed outshot on right end. Doorway to rear. 2 storeys.
Exterior:cottage has 2 ground floor and 1 first floor front windows, all C20
casements and 2 with glazing bars. Roof is half-hipped to left and gable-ended to
right. Rear of woodshed was originally open-fronted, 2 bays with granite post. It
is now boarded.
Interior is largely the result of C19 and C20 modernisations. The beams are boxed
in and the fireplace is plastered. Roof not inspected but is said to comprise pegged
A-frame trusses.
