Description

SX 68 NE CHAGFORD

3/39 Dung Pit approximately 4 metres
- north of Hole Farmhouse

GV II

Dung pit. Probably C18. Built of large undressed blocks of granite the circular pit
is terraced into the slope in the centre of the farmyard in front of Hole Farmhouse
(q.v). It was unloaded from the north-eastern (downhill) side where there is a gap
in the revettment walls.
This dung pit is an important centrepiece to the farmyard and forms part of a group
of attractive farmbuildings, the best of them listed, in the vicinity of the
important Dartmoor longhouse, Hole Farmhouse (q.v.).
