Also in Loddiswell c.p.
Road bridge over River Avon. Late C18 or early C19 on line of turnpike route
replacing earlier road over Newmill Bridge (qv). Squared coursed slate stone.
A large single segmental span with flush voussoirs set beneath continuous string
course, parapets squared and with series of vertical 'through stones' at regular
intervals. At each end of the arch and on both faces a shallow square buttress
carried right through and the abutments slightly flared out. At the east end
the abutments are carried on for c.14 m 6to a flight of stone stairs each side,
brought to a landing and a stone stile slab at the top. The abutment wall on
the south side has 2 large added raking buttresses taken up to the height of the
string course. Total run of bridge parapets c.53 metres and roadway c.4 m wide.
