C18 and C19 probably, Ashlar gate piers with moulded plinth and capping
and with ball finials. Double iron gates each with 5 horizontal bars,
uppermost one curved to form a gegment; lower 4 arranged in pairs with
inset bands of diagonal panelling; vertical rails terminate alternately
at 2 horizontal levels. Semi-circular bar overthrow with scroll decoration
supporting C19 quadrangular lamp with cresting. Wall of stone rubble encloses
churchyard on all sides; on south side wall is lower and has ashlar coping.
Church of St Mary Magdalene, Churchyard walls, piers and gates, Lattice
House, Garden Wall and piers to Lattice House, Middle House and Raleigh
Lodge form a group with the gates at the entrance to Sherborne Castle in
Sherborne Rural District.
