Pedestal with figure and portrait medallion. c1886. Stone.
Rectangular plinth with stepped base and inset inscribed panel
supporting a sculptured grieving female figure, in Classical
robes, leaning with right arm supporting head on a draped pile
of 3 books on a pedestal with relief portrait medallion of
deceased surmounted by a Classical wreath.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Joseph Maas was a Milan trained opera singer
who became principal tenor at Her Majesty's Theatre. His tomb
is one of the earlier ones in the cemetery.
