Spa bath house now private dwelling and shop. 1834 for The Spa Bath Company,
altered. Ashlar magnesian limestone on rock-faced plinth, graduated slate
roof. 1-storey, U-shaped plan now with 2:3:3 windows on principal front
overlooking River Wharfe; entrance to rear between wings facing Spa Lane.
Riverside front: battered plinth; canted central projection with sill band to
C20 casements beneath flat arches; to right are three C20 casements and to
left are 2 larger casements in altered openings. Hipped roof with 2 ridge
stacks and stack to ridge of rear wing on right. Rear: blocked window to
wing on left; doorway to wing on right; infill between not of special
interest. Right return, 2 blind windows with projecting sills and flat
arches; C20 casement on right. Built to exploit the great demand for the
medicinal qualities of the Spa water spring first discovered near this spot
in 1744. Included partly for its historical importance.
