Dairy farm buildings. 1914. H Munro Cautley in association with Halsey Ricardo for
Sir Ernest Debenham's model dairy farm: cow shed, feed shed, store and barn,
calving boxes, calf courts and covered yard. Brick, concrete block, steel
stancheons and trusses. Roofs of asbestos tile, patent interlocking tile and
black glazed pantile, patent roof lights. A symmetrical plan intended and partly
constructed to the south and on the central axis of the dairy listed as Nos 29 and
30 and Nos 1 and 2 Dairy Bungalows, Briantspuddle (q.v.). Cow shed flanks east
side of central axis: originally of 17 bays linked with south side of dairy, but

bay cross axial feed shed: Two parallel ranges with cowshed roof extended over
north range and duplicated on west side: gabled south range with patent tile roof
contains loft for granary and grinding. Gabled 5 bay corn barn to east and
similar roof store to west. A covered yard with 11 bay steel truss gabled roof on
east side of cow shed with corn barn at south end. Yard entered on east side at
north and south ends of 8 bay range of calving boxes. A 7-bay range of calf
courts at north end of yard. Both ranges with hipped pantile roofs. Cow shed:
concrete block wall panels between stancheons, high level steel frame windows,
triangulated steel frame trusses, glazed ridge lights with louvred side vents,
tiled floor with concrete mangers to either side of central milking floor and
outer feeding passages. Feed shed, barn and roof store of bricks, roof lights of
glass pantiles to feed shed. A cart entry in gable and walls of barn and store
with concrete lintels and a Diocletion window over each in gable; metal frames.
Irregular fenestration to south side of feed shed with 2 double ledge and braced
doors, segmental brick heads to steel framed casements and in gable end windows.
Barn and store have a 2-light window with a central vent in the frame to each bay
on the south side. Covered yard: roof gables with vertical board facing. Calving
box and calf court ranges of concrete block panels, brick piers to entries on east
side with steel segmental arches over vertical board doors to boxes and courts.
