Long-jetty house, early C16, divided into 2 cottages. Timber framed, plastered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays aligned NW-SE, with axial chimney
stack in second bay from NW end. Aspect SW. 2 storeys. The Nook (at NW end)
has exposed beams and joists below jetty, C20 door and 3 C20 casement windows
on each floor, gablet roof. Oak Cottage has the jetty underbuilt, 5-panel door
with top 2 panels glazed, one C20 casement window on ground floor and 2 on first
floor. The Nook comprises the plainer service end, with jowled posts, close
studding exposed internally, edge-halved and bridled scarf in NE wallplate,
grooves for sliding shutters and mortices for diamond mullions. Faintly carved
date 1602 on mantel beam of inserted chimney stack, the brickwork below it
renewed. Exposed plain joists of horizontal section. The SE side only of the
second transverse beam from the NW end has rich folded-leaf carving. There is
an inserted ceiling above the first floor, the beam plain-chamfered with lamb's
tongue stops, early C17. Oak Cottage is generally similar, except that the
joists are richly moulded and the axial and transverse beams have rich folded-
leaf carving and double-ogee mouldings. Clasped purlin roof with arched
windbracing.
