Translated as 'Here lies John Bettesthorne, sometime lord of Chadenwyche, founder of this chantry, who died the 6th day of February in the year of our Lord 1398, dominical letter E, on whose soul may God have mercy, Amen' and below 'You who pass by, observe, stand, read, lament; You are what I was, and shall be what I am; I entreat you, pray for me'
