Late C18, presumably contemporary with The Crescent (1793), as the south
side forms the north side of The Crescent's roadway; and trios no earlier
than 1793. Cast iron. Solid. Painted black with gilded um finials. Urn
finials to principals, otherwise spear. Octagonal ashlar piers with
moulded conical caps, although at west end and on south side they are
square, with incised trefoil-headed panels, pyramidal tops with crocketed gablets, and ornamental cast iron lamps set on finials. West end of Abbey
Place has two taller cast iron columns, with taller urn finals, and
overthrow over pavement.
