NY 34 NW THURSBY Crofton

12/54 Gate arch and flanking walls, to 11/4/67 south-east of Crofton Hall

Gate arch and flanking-wall. Probably 1826 (same date as stable block) for the Brisco family of Crofton Hall. Calciferous sandstone ashlar. Tall gateway, with lower wall in serpentine shape. Fluted Ionic columns flanking tall round-headed arch, moulded entablature and dentilled cornice. Wall of rusticated ashlar. Arch was originally surmounted by a carved stag which is now removed. Forms part of a group with the 2 lodges behind.
