Cottages attached at right-anles to Nos. 140-146 (even) q.v. , circa 1910 probably by Hamlyn and Wright of Warrington, for Sir Gilbert Greenall. Red sandstone lower and half-timbered upper storey with graded Westmorland green slate roof; 2 shaped chimneys on ridge. Projecting plinth. The upper storey and the gables are jettied; heavy oak bargeboards. The symmetrical front of No.138 faces Chester Road; camber-arched window to either side of door, jettied upper storey on shaped stone corbels, oriel window to bedroom. Leaded glazing removed; altered half-glazed door. No.138A faces garden, left. Door in corner against No.140; canted bay window with mullions; 5-light oriel to front bedroom; leaded glazing; framed and boarded half-glazed door with small panes.
