Hotel, mid/late C19. Dressed sandstone with white Pease brick to east gable
end. Welsh slate roof with brick end stack at left and 2 stone stacks at
rear. 3 storeys, 3-bay ground floor, 4-bay upper floors. Central 3-panel
double doors in Tuscan porch surmounted by sculptured lion couchant on
plinth. Canted stone quadripartite bay windows with sashes and cornice on
ground floor. Upper-floor sash windows in architraves with sill bands,
round-headed with keystones on 2nd floor. Heavily-moulded eaves cornice
below shallow parapet. Raised quoins. Sign boards between first and 2nd
floors. Hanging sign with ornamental iron bracket at left end of first
floor. Roof hipped at right end. Single-bay right return. Contemporary
rear wing in keeping. Mid C20 single-storey rear extensions are not of
special interest. Included for group value.
