Barn about 20 metres east of
Birchenhayes Farmhouse

Bank barn. Late C18 - early C19, with later C19 addition. Slatestone rubble with
stone dressings. Hipped slate roof with ridge tiles.
Plan: Bank barn, built into the bank at the rear; shippon at ground floor and barn
over. Later C19 open-fronted linhay attached to rear left, and with a lean-to set in
the angle to rear right.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical front; ground floor has 3 round-arched shippon
doorways with dressed stone heads, 2 with ventilator doors. Loading doorway has
double doors with pentice hood above. to left, an external stone stair to an upper
door, the hood continuous with the hood over the loading door. At ground floor to
left is a single door with cambered stone head. Right end blind. Left end has ground
floor window with stone head, first floor window with timber lintel. At the rear, a
loading door with hood corresponding to the door at the front. Single storey lean-to
in the angle to the linhay to rear left. At the left, the linhay is open-fronted,
with crested ridge tiles to the roof.
