side and wash house to north

GV II

House, garden wall and wash house. Circa mid C19. Coarsed dressed granite front,
otherwise painted rubble with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills and lintels
Asbestos slate roof with rendered chimneys over the gable ends.
Double-depth plan with 2 equal front rooms flanking a through passage leading to
central rear stair hall with shallow service room behind each front room. A garden
wall adjoins the left hand side of the front and returns at right angles to the front
to form the boundary between the house and the road. A gateway adjoins at the rear
left hand corner of the house and adjoining the far gate pier is a single storey wash
house.
2 storey. Symmetrical 3-window south west front with central doorway. C20 door.
Original 12-pane hornless sashes both at front and at rear.
The garden wall is slurried rubble with rubble coping. The wall is ramped up near
the house and a doorway to the garden adjoins the corner of the house.
The wash house has painted rubble walls, a grouted scantle slate roof with gable ends
and a brick chimney over the left hand gable end. The south west front has a rounded
corner, far left, small window, left, and a doorway. A round-headed gate pier, one
of a pair of piers flanking the rear courtyard gateway, is between the window and
door.
An attractive house both front and rear and enhanced by the survival of the complete
wash house and garden wall.
