3 Can Cottage and cottage to south

GV II

2 cottages. Circa early C17. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Corrugated
iron roof with gable ends on left and rag slate roof with gable ends on right.
Projecting end stacks with later brick shafts and truncated axial stack to right of
centre.
Plan: Probably originally a 3-room and cross or through passage plan house, later
divided to form 2 cottages. Entrance to left of centre with service room on left
heated by end stack, hall heated by axial stack in higher cross wall and inner room .
to right heated by end stack. Divided to form 2 cottages, the left hand cottage of
2-room and central passage plan occupies the lower end, passage and hall and the
right hand cottage the inner room and a row of C19 single storey pigs' houses on the
front right now converted to form a kitchen.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 3:1 window front, the left hand cottage with circa early C19
casements with HL hinges. C20 glazed door in gabled painted brick porch flanked by
two 3-light casements with three 2-light casements on first floor. To right, C20
door and 2-light casement on ground floor with 2-light casement on first floor.
Single storey pigs' houses converted to kitchen projecting to front right.
Interior: Right hand cottage has C19 floor joists and stair, possibly in earlier
stair projection to rear. Lintel to fireplace renewed. First floor not inspected.
Interior of left hand cottage not accessible.
