7/39 Sharrocks and Sharrocks Cottage
GV II
House and shop now converted to flat and house. Circa early C17, extended with front
wing in circa late C18 or early C19. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Rag
slate roof, partly coated with bitumen on front. Range on rear with gable ends and
wing on front with hipped end. Stone rubble axial stack and adjoining brick shaft to
rear range. Wing on rear left of stone rubble with slate roof and stone rubble gable
end stack.
Plan; possibly rear C17 range of two room plan with further service range of one-room
plan added to rear left, heated by a gable end stack. Circa late C18 or early C19
front range added to right, of 2 rooms and central entrance, the larger right hand
room the former shop.
2 storeys. Rear range set back with lean to C20 porch on front left and C19 2-light
sliding sash on first floor. Front range on right with asymmetrical 2-window front;
C19 4-pane sash to left, part glazed C20 door and two 12-pane hornless sashes to
right in blocked shop window opening with timber lintel. First floor has 12-pane sash
to left and 12-pane sash to right in half dormer with raking roof.
Interior of Sharrocks Cottage; front wing has C19 ceiling beams. The rear range on
right has heavy cross beams and possible remains of timber newel stair to front of
fireplace served by axial stack.
