Built on the site of an earlier grist mill, the water-driven stamps shown here processed ore from Carn Galva mine from the 1860s, when the output of the mine exceeded the capacity of the nearby Porthmoina works.

Here you can see the remains of the circular buddles, wheel pits, settling tanks, drainage leats and the partially ruined chimney which once served the small granite built "Burning House" to the right. About a dozen people were originally employed here when the site was active.
