II

House. Late C18 for the 11th Duke of Norfolk. Dressed red sandstone walls with
eaves modillions and battlemented parapets. Graduated greenslate roof with red
sandstone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Centre panelled door in
pointed-arched surround. Sash windows with intersecting glazing bars in
pointed-arched surrounds with false impost blocks and keystones. Left return
wall has large pointed-arched tracery window. Rear has 2 round-arched doorways,
now partly blocked to form windows and right square casement. Pointed-arched
window above with flanking similar 2-light windows. This was the head gardner's
house for the Greystoke estate.
