Stables. Of 2 builds, the oldest part dated and inscribed W & BW 1675 (William
& Barbara Williams, Steward to the Earl of Arundel for the Greystoke estate),
with late C18 extension for the 11th Duke of Norfolk. The oldest part of pink
sandstone rubble, the extension of dressed pink sandstone, both parts with flush
quoins. Graduated greenslate roofs with coped gables and kneelers. 2 storeys,
single bay with left slightly higher 2-storey, 4-bay extension. Central
chamfered segmental archway under date panel and small chamfered-surround
opening flanked by slit vents. Extension has off-centre segmental carriage arch
and regularly-spaced flat-headed doorways, all with stone surrounds. Casement
windows with glazing bars, radial in round heads, those above now boarded over,
all in stone surrounds. Right return wall has C17 openings, one of 2 lights,
and slit vents in gable. Left return wall has 2 levels of blocked square
windows under oval vents and heart-shaped gable vent. Was used as stables,
coach house and pigeon loft. Right lean-to extension is not of interest.
