House and former stables, now Quaker guest house. Early C19 for the Dowson
family. Mixed pink and calciferous sandstone rubble walls with calciferous
sandstone V-jointed quoins, on chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roofs
with banded ashlar chimney stacks. House 2 storeys, 5 bays in all. Taller,
projecting, cross-gabled 2-bay section with one bay to left and 2 lower bays to
right. Stable at far left, L-plan formed by rear extension, with C20 link.
Right portion has left panelled door and overlight in pilastered surround, under
pediment. Sash windows with glazing bars in stone surrounds. Similar sash
windows in extension. Stables have blocked central segmental cart entrance,
under slit vents.
