6/43 Kings Head Hotel

GV II

Hotel. Mid C18, with earlier origins. Hammer-dressed sandstone part
creeper-covered, on rubble plinth; pantile roof; rebuilt brick stacks.
3-cell, through-passage, plan, with earlier rear wing to left. 2-storey,
4-window front. Chamfered quoins. Segmental-arched entrance to right of
centre with voussoirs and quoined jambs, approached by stone steps. C20
half-glazed partition and double doors and fanlight with glazing bars.
Canted bay with sashes to end left. 12-pane sashes with stone sills in
flat, squared surrounds throughout. Raised first floor hand; cavetto-
moulded eaves cornice. Coped gables, cyma recta moulded kneelers. End and
centre stacks. Interior: C17 re-used closed string, open well staircase
with turned balusters to rear of room to left. Early Cl8 square panelling
re-used in bar to right.
