KINGS NYMPTON
Limebeers Oakwell Farm

(Formerly listed as KINGS NYMPTON Higher Oakwell)

II

Farmhouse, unoccupied at time of survey. Late C17 or early C18. Painted rendered stone rubble and cob, unrendered to rear. Thatch roof with gable ends. Front lateral stack towards right end with pronounced batter, heightened in brick with slated bread oven projection. Lateral stone rubble stack with tall brick shaft towards rear left end.

Plan: L-shaped on plan, with direct entry into parlour heated by rear lateral stack at left end and kitchen to right heated by front lateral stack with entry at right end and staircase running up rear wall. Rear wing has scullery/dairy behind the kitchen and integral lofted outbuilding beyond.

Exterior: Two storeys. Two-window range. Early C20 four-light and two-light casements two panes per light above C20 two-light window to left of porch with pantiled leanto roof in line with lateral stack. Plank door. Right side of rear wing has C20 leanto porch to left of leanto with slate roof and plank door to outbuilding to right.

Interior: original fireplaces probably concealed behind C20 grates. Creamery to rear wall of kitchen. Interior principally has late C19 and early C20 joinery. Roof not accessible but visible feet of rough principals suggest late C17 or early C18 roof structure entirely intact.

Limebeers Oakwell Farm is in a poor state of repair having been unoccupied for many years.
