Description

MARAZION FORE STREET, Marazion
SW 5230-5330
5/14 Evelyn Cottages and bollards in
front

GV II

Row of 4 cottages. Probably C18. Stucco over granite rubble, slate sills. Grouted
scantle slate roof with gable ends. Brick chimney over cross party wall, left of
middle, over party gable, left, and just behind gable end, right. Some cast-iron
ogee gutters.
Plan: 4 1 room plan cottages, the left hand pair with through passage, known as ope
locally, right of middle and the right hand pair wider with 2 cross-passages in the
middle. It is possible that both pairs were originally 2 room plan houses later
subdivided, with the passage of the left hand house becoming an ope to the row of
houses (Phillips Court) at right angles behind the left hand rooms. Ground slopes
down on the right and at rear.
Exterior : 2 storeys. Overall 5 window front: 2 window front, left, and 3 window
front, right, both fronts slightly irregular. The left hand pair has circa late C19
or C20 4-pane hornless sashes to the ground floor and circa early C19 wider 16 pane
sashes to the first floor. The right hand house has circa late C19 6-pane horned
sashes and C19 4-panel doors with the top panels later glazed.
Interior not inspected.
