A view of West Peevor Stamps Engine House with those of Wheal Peevor beyond.
This was an unsuccessful spin-off from the latter. The two engine houses here were erected in 1882 , but the mine closed just five years later. In 1968 the mine saw renewed activity when, encouraged by the results of drilling, Mitchell's shaft was re-opened. But at 51 metres the shaft was found to be irreparably blocked and the project was abandoned.
The stamps engine house pictured here lies on private land and has been allowed to fall into a perilous condition and should not be approached.
