An aerial view of West Peevor Mine stamps engine house.

This mine was an unsuccessful spin-off from Wheal Peevor which can be seen further to the east. The two engine houses here were erected in 1882 , but the mine closed just five years later. In 1968 , the mine saw renewed activity when, encouraged by the results of drilling, Mitchell's shaft was re-opened. But at 51 metres the shaft was found to be irreparably blocked and the project was abandoned.

The stamps engine house pictured here in the foreground lies on private land and has been allowed to fall into a perilous condition and should not be approached.
