Carved panel above the door of "Pinewood" 45 North Bar Without, Beverley. The panel depicts a scene from the Charles Dickens novella "The Cricket On The Hearth" ( Not The Cloister And The Hearth by Charles Reade as described in the listing text) The panel shows Caleb Plummer, a toy maker, and his blind daughter Bertha sitting by the fire. The panel was carved by James Edward Elwell father of the artist Frederick William Elwell. The organ screen carvings in Beverly Minster was carved by James Elwell and designed by Sir Gilbert Scott. He became the Mayor of Beverley in 1901.
