4/140 Rectory Cottage (Rose Cottage on
- the O.S)

- II

Small cottage. Probably mid - late C17, modernised circa 1980. Local stone and
flint rubble; stone rubble stack and chimneyshaft; thatch roof.
Plan: 2-room plan cottage facing east-north-east, say east. The larger left
(north) room has a gable-end stack with a newel stair rising alongside. 2 storey
with C20 outshot on the north end.
Exterior: irregular 2-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars. The front
doorway is towards the left end and it contains a part-glazed C20 door behind a
contemporary porch. The roof is gable-ended to left and hipped to right.
Interior: is largely the result of the C20 modernisation although the basic
structure appears to be C17. The larger left room crossbeam is deeply chamfered an
the fireplace is plastered rubble with a chamfered and step-stopped crossbeam.
Roof was not available for inspection at the time of this survey.
