Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 with mid-C18 alterations; restored mid-C20.
Timber-framed with rendered infill on sandstone base, some sandstone walling
and brick replacement walling; plain tiled roofs. Hall and cross-wing plan;
hall part of two framed bays aligned north-west/south-east; large chimney
at end of north-westernmost bay with three rebuilt star-shaped stacks to
rear of ridge; cross-wing at north-western end also of two framed bays and
has large external chimney with offsets and two square stacks to south-east
side of rear bay. Part single storey and attic with dormers, part two storeys.
Framing: hall part of three and four panels from sill to wall-plate; no trusses
visible. Cross-wing front bay has close-set studding on ground floor, three
rows of rectangular panels at first floor level; short straight upper corner
braces; collar and tie-beam truss with two collars; three struts to lower
and two to upper collar and V-strut in apex; rear bay largely rebuilt.
Windows are mainly C20 wood-mullioned type with leaded casements. North-east
front elevation: hall part has a 4-light oriel window on two shaped brackets
with a plank weathering, two 2-light windows with plank weatherings and a 2-
light landing window; two gabled dormers with a 2-light and a 3-light window
and a C20 door with moulded architrave and cornice. Cross-wing gable end
has a C20 ground floor oriel window on three shaped brackets with tiled
weathering and a 4-light first floor window with plank weathering. Interior:
some moulded ceiling beams. Staircases have been replaced. A lean-to addition
encloses the rear external chimney.
