Former manor court room, converted to library and shop below. C18 or earlier with
C20 alterations. Stone rubble with slate roof gabled to the front ; lateral stack on
left return.
Plan: Small 1 room plan building, gabled to Newton Square with a flight of external
stone steps on the left return leading to the former manor room where the court leet
meetings were held (Hulland). The steps have been enclosed, the ground floor
functions as a shop and the first floor as a library.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical front, gabled to Newton Square with a slate plaque
in the gable inscribed "Hon. Newton-Fellows, Lord of ye Hundred, 1798". The ground
floor has a central round-headed doorway flanked by round-headed shop windows ; first
floor 12-pane sash. 1 first floor and 2 ground floor sashes on the right return.
Interior: not inspected.
This building, at the west end of the market infill in the centre of Bampton faces
No. 11 (q.v.) across Newton Square and is a crucial part of the town centre.
