His armoured feet rest on a lion coward (with its tail tucked between its legs). On its other side is a female weeper telling a rosary. By her feet, a lapdog. By her head, another child, though not an infant in swaddling. His head rest upon a helmet with closed visor and crest of a Lions head erased gorged with a buckled thong. / Orate pro amimabus Iohannis Harington et Aliciae uxoris eius, qui quidem Iohannes obiit v die mentis Novembrum Anno Domini Millesimo CCCC XX IIIIimo et praedicta Alicia obiit die mentis Millo. CCCCC . quorum animabus propitietur Deus Amen. Translation of Latin inscription: Pray for the souls of John Harington and Alice his wife which same John died on the 5th day of the month of November AD 1524 and the aforesaid Alice died …. Day of the month of ……AD 15 hundred and…… upon whose souls may God have mercy. Amen. Apparently the descendants could not have Alices dates filled in, but this is not unusual. Alabaster shields. At end, Quarterly (1) Sable a fret argent (Harington of Ridlington, Rutland). (2) Argent a bend engrailed gules (Colepeper). (3) Argent fretty sable and on a canton of the field a mullet gules. Over all a fess of the last. (?Iwardby and Abenhall). (4), Argent a chevron between 9 mullets five and four gules (Hardeshall). (5), Azure a saltire and a chief or (Bruse). (6) A chevron between three billets gules (Delalaund). Impaling Gules an eagle displayed argent (Southill co Leicester). On her side of the tomb are three shields (1) A fret (Harington) (2) Argent a bend engrailed gules (Colpeper). (3) A fret over all a thin bar on a canton a mullet (?Iwardby). (Photo Sept 2014).
