Arden's House, Faversham, Kent

Uploader's Comments

This is Arden's House. Thomas Arden - the Mayor of Faversham in 1548 and comptroller of the Port of Sandwich - lived here. On 15th February 1551, he was murdered at the instigation of his wife. The older building on the left was originally part of Faversham Abbey outer gateway. The Abbey was founded in 1147 and the section that is now part of Arden's House was built around 1250 and incorporates a small chapel.
