TL 51 NW HATFIELD BROAD OAK WOOD ROW

3/134 Forest Cottage

GV II*

Cottage. Early C14. Timber framed and pebble dashed with thatched gabled roof.
Thatched lean-to extension on east end. Of 2 storeys with aisles on both sides
of main block. East gable is part black weatherboarded and gable end stack. Windows
are C20 casements and small stack on south roof slope. One bay survives of very
small aisled hall with sharply curved aisles braces and a thick cranked arcade brace.
Splayed scarf joint with under squinted abutments and unjowled chamfered arcade
post. Inserted floor on decorated support block with 'AB 1634' inscription. C17
inglenook fireplace and one good C17 door.
