Almshouse group. Circa 1912 by Sir Aston Webb. Grey brick with red brick dressings,
plain tiled hipped roofs with handed stacks to left and right of centre. Single storey
and attic under 2 flat roofed dormers. Central recessed range with projecting gable
front end wings. 1 glazing bar sash window in each gable end, one casement window
either side of central, paired, part glazed doors. Colonnade of 4 twisted brick
piers across the front with quoined responds.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
