Almshouse pair. c 1912 by Sir Mervyn Macartney. Red brick with plinth and plat
band , coved cornice to pyramidal plain tiled roof. 2 storeys. 2 bays with casements
on the first floor, arches with keystones below , the left hand one blocked as
originally with inset casements, the right hand one forming the entrance arch.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
