House. Mid C18. Rendered brick with metalled mansard roofs and
corner stacks. 3 storeys, attic and basement. 4-window range
in all with projecting bow to front and canted back enclosing
corner stack. 6/6 sashes to 3-window bay, attic dormers later
C20. Blind windows over 6-panel door with curved over-light.
INTERIOR: retains marble fireplaces to ground and first floor,
the second floor a fireplace with cherubs in surrounds, and
box cornice and C18 doors. Attic and first floor rear rooms
with C19 fireplaces. Stick baluster staircase with scrolls on
rises is largely renewed. Front retains iron railings with
vases and overthrow to entrance, whence rises stone stairs to
door. In 1750 No. 61 was attacked in the Gordon Riots and
1770-82 was the residence of William Hyde J.P.
