Group of four headstones approximately 25 metres north of Church of St Andrew

Group of four early/mid C18 headstones approximately 25m North of chancel of Church of St Andrew (qv). Sandstone.

(i) approximately 20m North of church. To John Downes d.1730. approximately 0.4m slab with moulded sides and shallow bracket top; reverse has three castles, like those of the arms of the town of Newcastle.

(ii) approximately 3m North West of (i). To Ann Crow d.1724. approximately 0.5m high, bracketed top, with deeply-cut six-petal roses on head at base of curves.

(iii) approximately 2m to North of (ii). To Dorothy Wilkinson. Date obscured by earth. Slab approximately 0.4m high with scalloped top.

(iv) approximately 5m North of (i) to Robert Dixon, d.176-. Slab approximately 0.4m high, with three-scalloped top, the central arch the head of an angel, others the wings.
