Terrace of 8 cottages. Dated 1875. For the Duke of Buccleuch.
Scored stucco, graduated slate roof. 2 storeys, 8 windows to
1st floor in rhythm 1:1:2:2:1:1. Symmetrical with gabled
centre and crosswing to each end. Plinth; projecting stone
sills; mostly 6-pane sashes. 3 double porches each with 2
narrow 3-pane casements beneath gable having shaped, pierced
bargeboards and finial; boarded door to each return. Crosswing
on left has side porch in same style (side porch to right
crosswing demolished). Central gable has date and monogram
'BQ' within crowned Belt of the Garter above motto 'AMO'.
Central gable and crosswing gable on left have decorative
bargeboards and finials. 4 rendered ridge stacks, that to
right incomplete. Crosswing on right (No.1) only partially
refurbished after a fire. Plans submitted in 1874 (unsigned)
show 3 flush gables and different porch details.
