GV II

Office of Rochdale Canal Company. Earlier C19, altered. Scored
render (front) and roughcast, on brick; slate roof (now
felted). Rectangular double-depth plan. Two-storey 3-window
facade, almost symmetrical; central doorway with pilaster
jambs and large double consoles carrying cornice lettered
"ROCHDALE CANAL Co", panelled door and rectangular overlight;
two 4-pane sashed windows at ground floor and 3 above,
symmetrically disposed except that to left at ground floor
which is close to door; ridge chimney and gable chimney, both
cut down. Right-hand gable wall has one sashed window on each
floor, but is otherwise covered by attached entrance archway
to canal terminus(q.v.). Rear: central round-headed doorway
with altered door and fanlight with radiating glazing bars,
8-pane stairwindow above door, tripartite sashed windows at
ground floor, 4-pane sash to left at 1st floor and altered
window to right. Included for group value.
