Terrace of 4 houses. c1860. Possibly by Thomas Austin.
Limestone ashlar, party wall stacks and a pantile roof.
Double-depth plan. 2 storeys, attic and basement; 6-window
range. Tudor Gothic style.
A composed terrace with 4 shouldered gables, the outer ones
stepped forward, with a central Gothic pilaster. 2-storey
porches set back at the ends, No.3 with a c1870 matching
extension behind the porch, the middle houses have outer
doorways, all with elliptical-arched heads, labels with stops,
overlights and 2-panel doors. Windows have elliptical-arched
heads and 2/2-pane sashes, in 3-light ground-floor bays with
crenellated parapets, 3-light first-floor windows, and 2-light
second-floor windows with gabled heads and labels, and swept
tracery bars. The gables have shallow zigzag arcading and
weathered coping, and bases for finials.
INTERIOR: No.3, glazed hall screen with stained glass, a tiled
hall, a central lateral dogleg stair with a wreathed rail and
thin turned balusters, openwork cornices and ceiling roses,
and marble fireplaces. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front
garden stone railings and piers with gabled caps. An unusual
Neo-Classically planned terrace with Tudor Gothic elevations.
