Terrace of 4 houses. c1770. Stucco and render, brick party
wall stacks and a pantile roof. Single-depth plan. Each of 2
storeys and basement; Nos 40 & 42 are 1-window range, Nos 44 &
46 are 2-window range. 2 pairs of houses with moulded parapet
coping, each pair with a coped party wall, and doorways to the
outside with thin brackets to pitched canopies, No.42 with a
C20 porch projecting, 3-light rectangular overlights and
6-panel doors; No.42 has a projecting C20 porch; windows have
some hornless sashes, with margin bars, 6/6-panes and
plate-glass, in flush frames; hipped dormer with casements.
INTERIOR: No.40, stair flight from the front entrance down to
the basement, and from the rear entrance upstairs, with turned
balusters; panelled wainscotting, cupboards, shutters and
2-panel doors. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: cast-iron front area
spear-headed railings have pineapple finials.
