Walls, gates and railings to front
of Ashlands Church of England School

GV II

Walls, gates and railings. 1896. Rubblestone with Ham Hill
stone plinth capping and piers, wrought and cast-iron
railings. Square piers with incised trefoils to the chamfered
tops, flank and articulate a low wall which steps downhill to
the right; this supports two horizontal, thick, square,
twisted railings threaded through 2 cast-iron verticals to
each section; these supports have square blocks at the joints
and elaborate domed tops. 3 wrought-iron gates, single to the
sides, double to right-of-centre have spiked tops and bands
pierced with pointed quatrefoils to the base. Included for
group value as part of a visually impressive design.
