Description

PORTLAND

SY6873 CHISWELL, Chesil
969-1/3/17 (East side)
Nos.90 AND 92

II

Pair of houses in row. Probably C17 origins, but raised and
refronted in late C19. Rendered, stone block gable, slate
roofs. A small pair of houses at the end of a row, twin gables
to street. 3 storeys, 1+1- windowed. All 4-pane horned sashes.
In No 90 the ground-floor window offset to right of C20 door
in cheeked porch with flat slab roof; No 92 has C20 door in
similar porch, far right. Central brick stack. The return
gable is in good squared and cut stone and shows clearly the
line of the earlier, lower steep roof. At the back is a full
width lean-to unit in two storeys, including one 16-pane sash.
The earlier provenance of the building is also indicated by
the low ceiling heights and overall small scale. Interior not
inspected. Subsidiary features: across the front and returned
at either end a low boundary wall in large squared block, with
simple openings opposite doors.
