House pair, No. 21 now a nursing home. 1840's, extended mid C19. Stock
brick in part painted, with slate roof. Three storeys and attic on
basement, with 4 pilaster strips and hipped roof with overhanging eaves
and central stack and 2 dormers. Two sashes on 2nd floor with vertical
glazing bars intact, 2 French windows on 1st floor, that to right
with shutters, and verandah on iron brackets, with trellised piers and
Gothick style panelled cast iron railings, and 2 sashes with vertical
glazing bars on ground floor, and 2 glazing bar sashes to basement.
Later C19 2 storey extension to right (No. 21) with pilaster strips and
stack at end right, and with irregular fenestration of 4 sashes in all,
with boarded door to centre right and sash-fanlight over. Entry to No.
22 (to left) by double panelled door in 2 storey porch on left return,
with 5 moulded steps, and C20 outer porch at lower level with boarded
door. Canted oriel window on left return. Part of J.C. Eddel's
development of Vale Square (for historical details see item 12/389).
