House, now restaurant. 1760 with early C19 alterations. Limestone ashlar; gabled
stone slate roof, hipped to left; ridge stacks of stone finished in brick, and
brick end stacks. L-plan, with No.2 Market Place (q.v.) forming rear left wing.
2 storeys; 5-window range. 2-window range to right has timber lintels over C19
six-pane window above tall 16-pane window with late C17 carving of man on
horseback set in tympanum; flat stone arch over C20 door with similar overlight
to right. 3-window range to left, with raised storey bands; stone lintel over
C20 door with decorative overlight flanked by C19 shop windows with bracketed
cornices; stone lintels over first-floor 6-pane sashes, and French window with
wrought-iron balcony to right. Interior: chamfered beams. Formerly owned by the
Brothertons, ironmongers since the early C18.
