Small double-fronted house at end of terrace of villas.
1839-1841. By Joseph Kay, Surveyor to Thornhill Estate.
Brown/beige stock bricks set in Flemish bond with stucco
dressings and quoins; roof obscured by parapet. Centre-hall
entrance plan. Three storeys; 3-window range. Enclosed stucco
portico entrance with entablature and blocking course; double
C20 doors and rectangular overlight to front. Ground-floor 2/2
round-arched sashes with stucco architraves and impost blocks.
1st floor stucco sill band. Upper floors with 2/2 architraved
sashes and small brackets to sills; 1st floor outer sashes
with cornices, centre sash with pediment. 2nd floor stucco
storey band. Stucco band, cornice and parapet above.
Malvern Terrace is a single row of terraced villas similar to
Ripplevale Grove (q.v.), and set back from a paved pedestrian
access with long front gardens. They were built as groomsmen's
cottages for Ripplevale Grove; No. 7 may have been the
tackroom with carriageway to the ground-floor.
