Top Hill House

GV II

House, formerly house and separate forge. c1790, altered and
enlarged in C19. Built by Edward Martin, a blacksmith at Town
Hill Cottage adjoining (qv item 1/166). The former forge at
the rear of the house was incorporated with the living
accommodation by a C19 linking structure which provided a new
entrance door. Front range is c1790. Red brick with some grey
headers. Hipped slate roof. 3 storeys; 2 windows. Front has 2
sashes with marginal glazing. Modillion eaves cornice. Plinth.
C19 link range is of brick with gabled slate roof. 1st floor
canted bay
