Exton House, walls and railings

House, now flats. 1876-7. Yellow stock bricks, lavish use of
moulded bricks for cornice, strings and other detailing,
shallow pitched shipped slate roof, tall brick stacks with
moulded caps in centre and on returns. Double-fronted. 3
storeys plus attic over basement, 3:1:3 bays, shallow bow
left, canted bay right, segmental-headed attic dormers
containing sash windows with one vertical glazing bar, all
other windows without glazing bars, dentil moulded cornice
with decorative frieze, windows in bays linked by continuous
entablature, first floor centre window framed by open pediment
with Ionic pilasters, ground floor windows with cills carried
on shaped brackets, entrance with composite columns carrying
shaped brackets and decorative frieze to entablature, original
panelled door, fanlight and lamp. Approached by flight of
steps with cast-iron railings. Brick walls with square piers
and moulded caps fronting property. This unusual arrangement
of one bow and one canted bay can also be found at No.6 Grand
Avenue (qv).
