House with attached former mill, now private guest house. C17 or
early C18 mill, altered in early C19; C20 alterations. House of
c1820. Flemish bond red brick to front of house; random rubble
marlstone; brick chimneys; stone slate roof to house, Welsh slate
to mill. House: 2-storey with attic. Mill: 3-storey with
single-storey rear outshut. Front: house to left has 3-window
fenestration, outer 16-pane sashes, central upper floor 12-pane
sash, all with voussoir lintels. Central doorway with Regency iron
porch; 6-panel fielded door. Plain parapet with stone coping.
Single central gabled roof dormer. Mill to right is of 2 building
periods. Oldest part to left has 2-window fenestration to ground
and middle floors with brick segmental-arched casements; row of 3
casements to upper floor. Central doorway with timber porch hood.
Large stone quoins mark junction with later enlargement having 4-
window fenestration as to older part. At right end a pointed-
arched window, possibly former doorway. Rear: house in marlstone
rubble; 2-window fenestration, small-paned casements with timber
lintels to ground floor; central staircase casement with timber
lintel, and leaded upper staircase window under eaves. Two hipped
roofed dormers with small-paned casements. Rear elevation of mill
has 2-light chamfered stone-mullioned casement to left of glazed
door; 12-pane sash to upper floor. Large outshut to left.
Interior of house has contemporary fireplace. Set of photographs
of house and mill is in NMR.
