II

Detached farmhouse. Dated 1812. Flemish bond red brick;
partially coursed marlstone at rear; ashlar limestone plinth;
brick chimneys; Welsh slate roof. Two-storey with attic; 2 rear
wings to form U-plan. Front: 3-window 20-pane sash fenestration
with brick flat arches and keystones. Central doorway with moulded
flat timber porch hood on brackets and 6-panel fielded door.
Central upper floor keystone inscribed 'JJS/1812'. Low parapet
with timber cornice. Brick gable end chimneys. Gable ends have
walls flush with wings projecting to rear; 2 attic openings to
each gable, louvred at south-west end. Rear: wings have scattered
segmental-arched casement fenestration. Single-storey lean-to
between wings. Some marlstone rubble built into rear walls. Many
internal walls said to be stone, possibly surviving from former
house on this site.
